Verification Policy

How verification works on KnownPros, what each badge means, and what verification does and does not guarantee.

What we verify

Businesses on KnownPros can submit records for review. Depending on what's submitted and reviewed, a profile may carry the following badges:

  • Email Verified — the business confirmed control of its listed email address.
  • Phone Verified — the business confirmed control of its listed phone number.
  • Claimed Business — an owner or authorized representative verified ownership of the profile.
  • License Verified — the business submitted license information and our team reviewed it against available records.
  • Insurance on File — the business submitted an insurance certificate that was current at the time of review.
  • Locally Verified — business identity confirmed through ownership verification.
  • Emergency Service — the business states it offers emergency availability. This is self-reported.

How review works

Documents are uploaded privately and reviewed by our team, typically within 1–2 business days. Only the verification status is shown publicly — the documents themselves are never published. Insurance badges track the certificate's expiration date; when a document expires, the badge lapses automatically until a current document is submitted.

Trust score

Each profile shows a 0–100 trust score built from verified email (+10), verified phone (+10), verified business identity (+15), reviewed license (+25), insurance on file (+25), profile completeness (+10), and recent updates (+5). The score cannot be purchased.

What verification does not mean

  • Verification is not a guarantee of work quality, pricing, or professionalism.
  • Document status can change after our review — licenses can be suspended, insurance can lapse.
  • You should independently confirm license and insurance with the issuing state board and insurer before hiring.
  • KnownPros is a directory and verification platform, not a contractor, and is not a party to any agreement between you and a business.
  • KnownPros is not responsible for work performed by third-party businesses listed here.

Reporting problems

If you believe a profile shows inaccurate credentials, use the "Report incorrect info" button on the profile or contact us. We review reports and may suspend badges pending re-verification.
